The Painted Desert Inn originally was a Fred Harvey House, re-designed by Mary Coulter, an architect who designed a number of Harvey houses (hotels). She also designed the "Watchtower" in Grand Canyon National Park. The Inn was decorated with Hopi symbolic paintings and decorations - see the skylights on the left an the mural on the right, painted by a famous Hopi artist Fred Kabotie |
